Job Research

We have be told to research into available jobs so that we have something to work towards in this project. I think this this is a really beneficial idea because it means we can develop a portfolio specific to that developer.

Im looking for a job as a 2D/3D character artist, but from the research i've done, it looks like character artist jobs in the UK are pretty hard to come by :S, which sucks. Working at with the Monster Hunter team at Capcom would be my dream job, as its my ideal style of game, but also highly on my list is Blizzard because of it World of Warcraft, but obviously i cannot in any instance expect to be hired by them unless im that good at what i want to be which im not...yet anyway.

Blizzard's website actually had many more jobs going for character artists than i expected. I cant directly link to the jobs due to the web coding but, these are the title of the jobs they had going that i would ideally want:

  • 3D Character Artist
  • Concept/2D Artist
  • 3D Character Equipment Artist

Its a shame that the jobs i want are oversea. That would have to be something i aim for as a life time goal, but not for now as i want to get into the industry for experience to expand my employability.

I also looked at jobs for Lionhead as they are based in Guildford and are a big developer in the UK.

Similar to the Blizzard criteria, they asked for majority of the same qualities, but also asked for a program i have never heard of called XSI. After researching found out that its another 3D software.

I also found another company called Leading Lights. As much as they are a group of concept artists that work for contractors, i am still interested by it as they stated that they are always looking for artists.

Their artwork tends to have more of a speed painting feel, but for this job, from what they have on the site, you would mostly need to have a variety of coloured concepts from character to environments.
